Large water treatment project for Kaliningrad

Malmberg Water has signed a contract for delivery of process equipment for the biological process at the Kaliningrad wastewater treatment plant, and for the supervision of the installation. The contract is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Devleopment (EBRD) and is managed through the Northern Dimesion Foundation (NDF).

The 450,000 inhabitants of Kaliningrad has no wastewater treatment plant in operation today, ant the new plant will have a very positive influence on the environment in the Baltic Sea when in operation. Construction started as early as in 1975, but for different reasons, especially the collapse of the Soviet Union, the plant was never completed and went into disrepair until reconstruction started again in 2010. Malmberg's installation is planned to start in August 2011, and is to be completed during the second half of 2012.

The project will be managed in close cooperation between Malmberg Water and its subsidiary Malmberg Water Kaunas in Lithuania.
