Malmberg participates in Ukrainian water treatment development


The Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Municipal Economy of Ukraine and Swedish Water Experience AB have signed a memorandum of understanding for wastewater solutions in Ukraine.

The ultimate goal is to adjust the wastewater and water treatment in selected cities to meet the EU environmental standards. The market for upgrading the Ukrainian water treatment sector is estimated to be worth €10 billion over a five year period.

Swedish Water Experience AB is an alliance between the major players within the Swedish water industry – Malmberg Water AB, Läckeby Water AB and Nordic Water AB.

Cooperation projects have already started in prioritized cities like Zhytomyr, Horlivka and Dymytrov. The next step is to start up a local entity in Ukraine for the project implementation.

Large water treatment project for Kaliningrad


The 450,000 inhabitants of Kaliningrad has no wastewater treatment plant in operation today. Malmberg delivers process equipment to the reconstructed plant, which will have a very positive influence on the environment in the Baltic Sea when in operation. The contract is worth EUR 6 million and the construction of Kaliningrad's new wastewater treatment plant starts in August 2011.

A waterworks project delivering ammonium and flouride free drinking water to the 200,000 inhabitants of Klaipeda is underway. Malmberg builds and installs the advanced process equipment.



New subsidiary in Bulgaria


The EU will finance development and renewal of Bulgaria's wastewater treatment in an infrastructure project totalling EUR 1.1 billion.
