When BGA Genthin wanted to harness the resources in its biogas production, they chose Malmberg’s CO₂ Harvester. By separating carbon dioxide directly in the gas upgrading process, BGA Genthin can create new revenue opportunities while also improving the plant’s overall efficiency. The facility in Genthin is a pilot project demonstrating how smart technology can contribute to both increased profitability and reduced energy consumption.

In October 2024, the CO₂ Harvester was installed on top of the existing D-column in Genthin. Thanks to smart design and minimal impact on existing systems, the installation was carried out without major reconstructions or disruptions to regular biomethane production. The result was a harvest of over 50% of the available CO₂ flow, with a purity of 97%.

The retrofit also led to an energy saving of 7–10%. Additionally, methane slip was reduced by approximately 10%, further strengthening the sustainability benefits.
