Malmberg CO₂ Harvester

A smart way to get more out of your biogas

The CO₂ Harvester is a smart solution for biogas plant owners, whether you already have an upgrading unit or are planning to build one. By recovering up to 75 percent of the carbon dioxide in the gas stream, you can create a new source of revenue, reduce energy demand and improve overall process efficiency. The installation is smooth, with no major changes to your current setup, and it opens up new business opportunities.

An add-on, or a standalone solution

The CO₂ Harvester is a modular unit that connects to your upgrading plant and allows you to recover clean carbon dioxide directly from the process. The technology is based on pressurized water absorption and is designed to work with Malmberg’s water wash system, but it can also be integrated with other upgrading setups.

Two available sizes

Harvester 50
Up to 300 Nm³ CO₂ per hour

Harvester 75
Up to 450 Nm³ CO₂ per hour

Benefits

Recovers up to 75 percent of CO₂ from raw gas

CO₂ purity over 97 percent, ready for sale

Reduces methane slip by approximately 10 percent

Lowers energy consumption by 7 to 10 percent

No impact on biomethane production

No moving parts. No new pressure vessel classification. No complications

The CO₂ Harvester is installed directly on top of the desorption column. It captures carbon dioxide that would otherwise be lost, without affecting the gas flow.

By redirecting part of the process water and using pressure reduction combined with air, the CO₂ is released at high purity without the need for additional pumps or pressure vessels.

The result is a more stable process, lower energy use and carbon dioxide that can be sold or reused.

What it looks like in practice

Genthin, Germany

In October 2024, a Harvester 50 was installed directly on top of the desorption column.

Results

  • 300 Nm³ of recovered CO₂ per hour
  • 0.024 percent CH₄ in exhaust
  • Reduced energy consumption
  • More stable plant operation
  • No negative effects on upgrading performance
