Jeppo, a town with only 1000 inhabitants located north of Vaasa in western Finland, has become a pioneer in the biogas industry in recent years. Since its establishment in 2013, Jeppo Biogas has focused on producing renewable energy by collecting waste from farmers and industries. With the main use of substrates from cow and pig farming, as well as waste from potato factories, Jeppo Biogas strives to create a sustainable and closed-loop system where the sludge is reused as fertilizer in local fields.

In this dedicated effort, Jeppo Biogas has found a reliable partner in Malmberg. Already in 2013, they began their collaboration with our delivery of a Malmberg COMPACT GR Bas 3, with a capacity to upgrade 400 Nm3/h of biogas to biomethane. The results were successful, and the project was almost problem-free. This experience strengthened Jeppo Biogas’s trust in Malmberg and paved the way for a second project.

The choice of Malmberg as the supplier for the second project was based on careful consideration of different technologies’ risk factors and variability in terms of operational and maintenance costs. Jeppo Biogas realized that their previously proven water scrubbing technology, delivered by Malmberg, outperformed competitors and was the most reliable and cost-effective solution on the market.

The second project, carried out in Jeppo, involved the delivery and installation of a Malmberg Compact™ GR BAS 3 plant with a capacity to upgrade 600 Nm3/h of biogas to biomethane. The upgraded gas is now used to supply nearby industries with heat and energy, as well as a nearby filling station with biomethane. The commissioning of the plant took place in the transition from 2020 to 2021 and has delivered excellent performance since then.

Kurt Stenvall from Jeppo Biogas AB expressed his confidence in the collaboration with Malmberg and emphasized the importance of Malmberg being close to its customers to actively monitor the performance of the plants online and provide valuable guidance for optimizing operations.
